Faure's Requiem at Saffron Hall

29 May 2023 - 7:00pm

“One of the world’s finest interpreters of choral music” (Classic FM Magazine), Stephen Layton conducts Britten Sinfonia and his outstanding vocal group Polyphony in Fauré’s wonderfully intimate Requiem, which ends in radiant transcendence.

In the first half we hear powerful pieces for strings by two great Baltic composers – Arvo Pärt’s an adaptation of the spoken Orthodox funeral service which builds in intensity, and Peteris Vasks’ in a similar mood but full of yearning energy.  Polyphony will perform some of Poulenc's most expressive motets.
