Tavener: The Protecting Veil

Christ Church, Spitalfields

Cellist Matthew Barley arranges music by some of the most well known South American songwriters: Antonio Carlos Jobim and Astor Piazzolla, taking inspiration from his time spent in the natural beauty of the Brazilian rainforest. Tavener’s Protecting Veil, an icon in sound for cello and string based on the eight feasts in the life of Mary, provides a moving finale to the concert.
